Police arrested a 65-year-old Florence man on Sunday for allegedly shooting and wounding a woman at her home, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. The woman, who is 50, was shot in the stomach and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The man’s name was not publicly released because it was a domestic incident, Northampton police said Monday, but he is being held on bail and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Northampton District Court. He faces charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a family member, according to the DA’s office.

Northampton police received an emergency call around 8:30 a.m. Sunday from the woman reporting that she had been shot in the stomach and left her home on Pencasal Drive. She told police the man remained in the house with the gun, according to the DA’s office.

The shooting victim was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Northampton and State Police responded to the home, where the suspect surrendered without incident and was placed under arrest.
