Matt Muspratt: Midseason losses over playoff runs?

Gazette readers could be forgiven for thinking last weekend was a disaster for local sports teams. Last Monday’s Page B1 headlines announced losses for the Patriots, UMass men’s hockey, UMass football, and UMass men’s basketball — regular season defeats, all.

Meanwhile, undeterred fans who turned to B2 might have noticed short roundup thumbnails on deep NCAA tournament victories for UMass men’s soccer, Amherst College men’s soccer, and Amherst College women’s soccer (alongside a close Elite Eight defeat).

Here’s hoping that, in the future, the Gazette will put championship wins ahead of midseason losses — maybe, I also hope, as soon as this weekend.
