Crash on I-91 in Northampton kills Connecticut man, 82

NORTHAMPTON — An 82-year-old Connecticut man was killed late Wednesday night when his car veered off Interstate 91 and crashed onto Island Pond Road in Northampton below the highway.

The crash occurred just before midnight and left the man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, dead at the scene. His car came to rest between and beneath two overpass bridges on the interstate.

State police and investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Detectives from the Northwestern district attorney’s office, along with troopers from the Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, are leading the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.
