EASTHAMPTON — An Amherst man arrested Saturday night in connection with the attempted armed robbery of CVS Pharmacy on Northampton Street pleaded not guilty in Northampton District Court to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and attempt to commit a crime.

Ian E. Yankson, 23, is alleged to have entered the store at 118 Northampton St. at around 9:30 p.m., where he brandished a knife to an employee and referred to also having a firearm in his vehicle, according to Easthampton Police.

Police officers responded to the call, where they identified and arrested Yankson before he was able to carry our the robbery, court documents state.

The incident is still under investigation, with no further details available.
